Thoughts on immigration – Prelude

I may post more on my thoughts about this whole immigration controversy later on, but first, a link to Senator Bill Frist‘s viewpoint.

Ask Me Weekend #1

(I’ll number this in the hope that this idea works, so there’ll be more of these…)

Digital Brainwaves is going to try an experiment. Similar ideas have seemed to work well on larger blogs and sites, and while I know I’m not going to get nearly their traffic, I’d like to try it once and see what happens.

Therefore, this weekend is a Ask Me Weekend. Ask me most anything (so long as it doesn’t stray into the realm of bad taste) in the comments below, and I’ll answer, if not all of them, at least the most interesting ones in entries through the weekend. (Yes, it’s me that gets to choose the definition of “interesting.” Sorry. :-P )

How to make a news story

It’s bad, but not as bad as you think…

Troop losses are a tragic, yet inescapable effect of military conflict. Jim Lindgren, though, points out that only now, three years into the battle, are we reaching the level of US casualties sustained during the worst single months in Vietnam.

Driving into history?

Last night during NASCAR NEXTEL Cup qualifying for the Golden Corral 500, Bill Lester qualified his #23 Dodge in 19th position, becoming the first black driver to qualify for a NEXTEL Cup race in 20 years.

I look forward to a time when this isn’t such a big deal — when Bill and others will make headlines for winning races, and just being there, not for being black.

And the winner is…

…the belt clip, which beat the Treo by a few hours Monday, as expected.

Naturally, this didn’t get posted Monday night — I was spending the evening playing with my new toy. Last night I had no excuse, sorry. :-P

Farewell, Top Gun

A moment of silence, for our F-14 Tomcat fleet.

SHIP’D!

W00t! I have a FedEx tracking number! :-D

My Treo shipped Friday afternoon and will arrive at work around 3:00 PM on Monday.

This amuses me to an extent, too… ’cause it’s being shipped standard overnight, and the original order was placed last Sunday… the same day I ordered the belt clip for it.

The belt clip that I had shipped UPS ground.

The belt clip that will, in all likelyhood, knowing what I know about the shipping schedule at work, arrive before the Treo. :-P
