Canada threatened by al Qaeda

The National Post reports:

An al-Qaeda strategist has warned Canada to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan or face terrorist attacks similar to 9/11, Madrid and the London transit bombings.

The threat, attributed to a member of the al-Qaeda information and strategy committee, condemns Prime Minister Stephen Harper for refusing to pull out of Afghanistan.

It also refers to Canada’s “fanatic adherence to Christianity” as well as its purported attempts to “damage the Muslims” and its support for the “Christian Crusade” against al-Qaeda.

It's al Qaeda if you have one Christian in your country and you tollerate them then you have a “fanatical adherence to Christianity". You need to behead the infidels....didn't you know that?!?

I live in Toronto, and while I do feel fairly safe, crazy shit has been known to happen here. So yeah, I could see planes flying into the CN tower or bombs in the subway sometime in the future. It's not like there aren't bomb scares already. I just hope I'm not running around downtown at the time (I don't think they will blow up North York).
  • I gotta agree with the first point. al Qaeda has never been really all that sane, in my view, and I've never noticed any "fanatical adherence to Christianity" myself, either.

While it may not be a major story, all the same, I sincerely hope no one gets caught with their pants down up there. I have a good number of friends in Canada, especially in Toronto, which I'd imagine would be high on the target list if 'Qaeda were going to try anything.

*snickers* "Colour-coded?" You're already spelling like a Canadian! ;) In all seriousness, though, it's hard to perceive any usefullness in the warning system if all we ever see is yellow and orange, "elevated" and "high." Americans have taken to looking at it with the viewpoint of, "still yellow? 'K," and going about their business. While it's a good idea not to become too complacent, going on about our day and not going completely bonkers is the best thing we can do.

  • That's funny, because Canada doesn't have a "fanatic adherence to Christianity". I think Al Qaeda is a bit confused. Then again, they're Al Qaeda, so they're not exactly sane.

At any rate, it's not a major story up here. Well, not out west, anyway. Canada isn't all "ZOMG TERRISTS!!111!1!" like the US tends to do. And there's no stupid colour-coded terror warning system. Seriosuly, does anyone ever pay attention to that thing? I feel safer here than I did down in the US.
