Kid Nation – Episode 1
Sep 19, 2007 That's Hot
Some random thoughts on the first episode, in no particular order, and cut for spoilers…
- Things were looking pretty bleak early on, but when the producers (I was hoping they’d make the kids do it themselves) imposed a little order and duty assignments to the villagers, things seemed a little better in the morale department.
- Thought we were going to start right out early with a broken leg, but it ended up being just a muscle spasm.
- I was worried about Mike not doing very much in his leadership role except boss people around, but that seems to have improved. I’m curious to see if that continues, though, now that he’s in the “upper class” group with no assigned duties.
- Glad the outhouse v. TV debate was decided by the council, and not a popular vote. Smarter decision won out.
- At first I was waiting for the older guys on the Blue team to start pilfering drinks from the saloon and such in their merchant positions. That may change with the council watching out for people to whom to grant $10K awards.
- On that note, it seems like Greg made a 180-degree turn there toward the end, in part from seeing the Gold Stars.
- Sad to see Jimmy go. Seems like most everyone else is willing to go for the long haul, at least for now.
- Sophia dancing for nickels was rather amusing. She earned the bike, though.
- Congrats, also, to her on the first Gold Star.
- Wondering if anyone’s going to be dumb enough to think stealing the star gets them the $20K instead. I doubt it, but anything can happen on some of the shows.
- Taylor’s “I’m a beauty queen, I don’t do dishes” shtick is going to get old reeeeeally fast.
We’ll see how well I do with further reviews. At least I’m getting in on the beginning of this one, and not midway through. Motivation to post is a good thing.
