American Idol 1/30

Finally getting around to watching this one. Headlines I’d seen online hinted that Simon wasn’t that big a fan of Miami this episode. Onward…

  • Okay, the Miami Vice setup is really funny. Ahh, someone just fell on their face before the camera cut away…
  • Heh, obvious link to Miami Sound Machine.
  • “That’s a very short-hemmed dress, Paula.” “I like it!” “Very slutty.” *snort*
  • Shannon reminds me, at least visually, of my friend Jami. Jami doesn’t grind hamburger for a living, though. :-P
  • WOW, that’s a hell of a belch.
  • She sounds like some of them from Tuesday’s show who are imitating original recordings, perhaps, instead of singing for themselves.
  • I think she’d do better trying again sometime after some lessons… she’s only 18. Lots of time to improve.
  • Robbie, on the other hand, sounds really good. Paula’s hooked.
  • Um, this is a singing competition, not a pan flute recital.
  • It’s not a competition of any of that stuff other people were doing, either. Singing! SINGING!
  • Paula’s got Ghalib’s situation pegged — he’s got a voice, but the accent is waaaaaaay strong.
  • Oh dear, they’re trying to set up the girls with Ryan?
  • Corliss has a good singing voice, and “Take Five” is one of my favorite jazz songs, but I don’t know if it works in a pop music competition.
  • Brittany is a little closer to the mark, I’d be interested to hear what she’d do with some newer material.
  • Oh gawd, Paula’s encouraging them now. :-P
  • Breathe, ladies, BREATHE!
  • Suzanne has a voice, but it’s not hard to tell she’s been out of practice for a few years, too. She makes it through, though.
  • Jasmine Trias’ clone? Wow, short stuff. :) Big voice, though.
  • Syesha would have done even better, I think, singing something with more range and less shouting. She does plenty well enough to move on, though.
  • Natashia sounds awesome, and I love the song.
  • Ilsy sounds good, too.
  • Wow, this is quite a collection of… um… yeah…
  • Julie was on American Juniors… she mentioned being top-20, but is she even better than that? She seems to have a voice, but it needs some work.
  • “They told me I was too precocious…” I think it’s the part where you’re still acting 12.
  • Brandon needs help. Seriously.
  • “I’m not just a funny person–” “You weren’t funny.”
  • Seriously. Security?
  • “You see, I don’t think…” That’s obvious, too.

Next week: Atlanta.
