American Idol 2/26 (Liveblogged!)

Top 10 men tonight, two more going home on Thursday.

  • I’m wondering if the order they’re introed here is their performance order. *jots them down* We’ll find out…
  • Ryan sucks up to Simon for some reason.
  • ’70s this week, following ’60s last week… ’80s next week?
    1. Michael Johns – “Go Your Own Way” – sounds flat at first, but he’s singing at a lower key than the original recording, so I may be hearing things. Sounds pretty damned good to me.
  • Michael fulfills his dream to sing a Fleetwood Mac song on TV. :)
  • The initial intro order appears to be the performance order.
  • Jason seems to have trouble with interviews. This could pose trouble. :-P
    1. Jason Castro – “I Just Want To Be Your Everything” – I’m wondering how long he’ll keep using the guitar. Sounds okay, but he still sounds a little nervous, like he’s using the guitar as a crutch.
    2. Luke Menard – “Killer Queen” – Sounds pretty good. He’s definitely got the performance down to go with the singing.
  • “Dawson’s Creek”? I can kinda see it the James Van Der Beek resemblance.
    1. Robbie Carrico – “Hot Blooded” – I’m not sure what Simon heard as a lack of charisma from Luke’s performance, but I can feel that lack in this performance. As Randy might say, “it’s just a’ight for me.”
    2. Danny Noriega – “Don’t You Remember You Told Me You Loved Me Baby” – The lisp is starting to bug me a little, but not horribly. Yet. Then again, the pitchy parts of this song may kill him this week, I don’t know. This song didn’t do anything for me tonight.
  • Danny still a little snippy at Simon.
    1. David Hernandez – “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” – Awesome performance. Could have been pitchy in spots, but you could barely tell. Best of the night thus far.
    2. Jason Yeager – “Long Train Runnin’” – All over the place first verse through, but improved marginally as it went on. Pitchy in several spots. I like this song, but this isn’t a great performance.
    3. Chikezie – “I Believe To My Soul” – Really good performance, even snuck some customized lyrics. I liked him last week, and it was a ton better tonight.
    4. David Cook – “All Right Now” – Unlike the earlier guitar performance, I’m liking this one. Masterful stage presence with a strong, in-key vocal.
  • David gets a little snarky at Simon after he criticizes, not the performance, but the intro video. Eh, whatever, still gets my vote.
    1. David Archuleta – “Imagine” – Interesting arrangement. Very impressive. This guy’s gotta be an odds-on favorite to take this entire competition.
  • Paula threatens homicide, of a sort. :-P I mean, how else do you define squeezing someone’s head off and hanging it from your rear view mirror? :-P

I’m casting votes for: Michael (1), Luke (3), David H. (6), Chikezie (8), David C. (9) and David A (10).

Predictions:
Bottom three: Robbie, Danny and Jason Y
Going home:
Robbie and Jason Y.

  • I haven't watched the results show yet, and thus cannot blog about it, but news reports that Luke is safe this week, and will perform again next week.

  • The introductory videos this week are themed "describe something America doesn't know about you," and Luke's video mentioned and showed video of him and Chapter 6 performing. I thought it was in the top half of the performances last night, though Simon wasn't as impressed. We'll find out Thursday night (though I don't know when I'll get it blogged, as I won't be in the country that night) if he survives another week.

  • Let me know if they vote Luke Menard off the island? He's a good kid in a local a cappella group, Chapter 6. I'd like to see him do well, but I don't has time to watch de show (I gotta practice derby).
