American Idol 2/27
Reporting from a time-shift, here’s my take on the top 10 women. Results tomorrow!
- 70’s night resumes after the intro of the judges.
- Randy has ginormous shoes… size 13???
- Simon’s new name is Mr. Happy.
- Carly Smithson - “Crazy On You” - Just rockin’. Sounds great front to back. Not much else to say. One of my favorites to win.
- You don’t always notice it when she’s singing, but you can pretty easily pick up Carly’s Irish accent when she talks.
- WOW, that was a spooky-good baby cry!
- Syesha Mercado - “Me & Mr. (Mrs.) Jones” - Another masterful performance to me, though the judges were less impressed.
- Brooke White - “You’re So Vain” - Hilariously ironic that the singer that looks most like Carly Simon is singing a Carly Simon song.
She does pretty well, though a little flat in spots, at least to me. One of my other favorites to win.
- Simon’s mic picks up his comment that he thought she was looking at him during the song.
- Brooke seems almost stunned at the praise she’s getting from the judges.
- Ramiele Malubay - “Don’t Leave Me This Way” - Sounded flat at first, but it’s just the lower key the song was done in overall. I don’t know if this is a good song choice for her, but it wasn’t bad.
- Kristy Lee Cook - “You’re No Good” - Interesting growl in the middle, don’t know if that was intentional. Great show.
- Anyone else think Amanda looks like early-’90s Candace Cameron?
- Amanda Overmyer - “Carry On My Wayward Son” - Sounded flat through the early parts, and didn’t really improve. Weird last note. Not the best choice of song. Paula’s right, she’s got some dance moves, but they didn’t help the vocal tonight.
- Alaina Whitaker - “Hopelessly Devoted” - Despite being OCD about her dinner plate, she sounds great. Couple weird high notes, but good job overall.
- It’s so funny when Ryan and Simon start bantering about their… *ahem* proclivities?
- Alexandréa Lushington - “If You Leave Me Now” - After getting that damned Pets.com sock puppet’s miserable commercial performance of this song out of my head, Alexandréa does a great job.
- Kady Malloy - “Magic Man” - Okay, but not entirely in key, at least to my ear. I wasn’t so impressed.
- Asia’h Epperson - “Without You” - Sounds pitchy, and almost about to break down about something through the early parts of the song. Nasty-flat held notes in the middle. Not a good show to me, though it got better at the end.
I’m casting votes for: Carly (1), Syesha (2), Brooke (3), Ramiele (4), Kristy (5), Alaina (7) and Alexandréa (8).
Predictions:
Bottom three: Amanda, Kady and Asia’h
Going home: Kady and Asia’h (Kady had a better performance, but I’m thinking Amanda may have a bigger fan base behind her)
