American Idol 3/4 (Liveblogged!)
Mar 4, 2008 That's Hot
The top 8 men start off the last three-episode week before the top 12.
- YES! ’80s week!
- OMG Luke Menard looks just Luke Perry in his intro video.
- Luke Menard – “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” – Wasn’t sure he was going to make that high note in the middle. He sounds a lot like George Michael’s vocal throughout, not too bad.
- David Archuleta – “Another Day in Paradise” – A little flat at the beginning. I don’t know if the piano is doing him any favors, though he sheds it after the opening verse. He finally comes up to the correct pitch by the end. Not stellar but it won’t be his last show.
- Perfectly imperfect?
- Danny Noriega – “Tainted Love” – I didn’t know Prince did this song? At least that’s what the performance reminds me of. Cool performance and interpretation, though.
- David Hernandez – “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now” – Not bad overall. One wicked flat note toward the end, and a not-quite-there note early on, like there was air but no voice. Good show though.
- Apparently we’re skipping someone to “work on a guitar”, don’t know if that’s to repair one or find one.
- Michael Johns – “Don’t You Forget About Me” – Scary note at the beginning, but this song seems perfectly tailored to his voice. Opens up even more at the end and hits the high notes quite well. Awesome performance.
- David Cook – “Hello” – With the guitar, it sounds almost like a Pearl Jam take on a Lionel Richie song. I’m likin’ it, and apparently so are the judges.
- Jason Castro – “Hallelujah” – Not a bad take on Jeff Buckley, though he seemed to be ahead of the guitar in places. For a difficult song, sounded pretty good, and his best performance so far.
- Chikezie – “All the Woman (Man) That I Need” – Not bad at all. Weird last note, not awesome, but otherwise okay. Not my favorite, but it’s probably enough to keep him on.
Everyone was great this week, overall — no one had any spectacularly bad showings.
I’m casting votes for: Luke (1), David A. (2), Danny (3), David H. (4), Michael (5), David C. (6) and Jason (7).
Predictions
Bottom three: Luke, Danny and David H.
Going home: Luke and Danny
