American Idol 3/6

Tonight, we crown the final 12, and single eliminations begin next week. This should also mean that we get back to two-night weeks, and I can have a night back. :-P

  • All 16 contestants are up in the red room as we lead off with last year’s beatboxer-extraordinaire, Blake Lewis.
  • Blake seems to have the robot/moonwalk moves down, too. Listen to the ladies swoon in the audience.
  • Paula is rockin’ out in the fedora at the judges’ table.
  • Damn, 36 million votes this week.
  • Simon is incapable of telling Paula congratulations on her record’s success.
  • Tuesday night’s show is recapped.
  • David Cook is in, the first member of the top 12.
  • David Archuleta and Jason Castro are also in. They’re setting it up as a “who made the cut” rather than “who got axed” show. After the break, they start on the ladies.
  • Brooke White is the first woman into the top 12 tonight, and is joined by Syesha Mercado.
  • Kady Malloy is the first one cut tonight.
  • I’m still not sure it’s fair to someone who’s just been told they’re cut from the show to have to sing immediately. The emotion that goes with such a blow completely messes with the vocal, which shows in Kady’s sing-out.
  • NEXT WEEK – taking live calls from viewers during the results show.
  • David Hernandez rounds out the first half of the top 12.
  • Michael Johns is in, but Luke Menard goes home.
  • Despite insistence to the contrary, Paula looks like she has to pee, as she stands to wish Luke well.
  • Ramiele Malubay makes the top 12, as do Carly Smithson and Amanda Overmyer.
  • Kristy and Asia’h are brought to center stage… for a break.
  • Randy and Simon are split over who they think is going home.
  • The final women’s spot goes to… Kristy Lee Cook. Asia’h Epperson is going home.
  • Can we please send Danny home so I don’t have to watch him bawl at every elimination?
  • …and, we do. Chikezie lands the final spot, and Danny Noriega goes home.

The top 12 are back for the start of single elimination weeks to the finale starting next week. See ya then!

  • The live band makes the show way more exciting, but the judges are dragging the show down.
  • Matt F.
For the first time in the 4 years I've watched the show (all of them with the current Top 24 format), the Top 12 is who I would've picked myself. I called all 4 cuts this week (ask Missy, I annoyed her with my "declaration" that I was right). In my opinion, those who got cut before this week wouldn't have made the Top 12 anyway.

I agree the "sing out" is too tough, especially for the girls and the guys who "wear they hearts on their sleeves." That said, it's a tough profession, so if you really want to make it, you better learn to handle singing in the roughest conditions.

Prediction for next week--Kristy Lee Cook or Chikezie go home (They were the guy and girl I thought could go home if one of the 4 cuts from last night made it through.
