American Idol 3/12 (Liveblogged!)
A rare chance to liveblog a top-12 results show, as I’m usually playing poker Wednesday nights.
- Jim Carrey in the house, dressed as a Horton.
- More Lennon/McCartney next week? How about some variety instead?
- Top-12 tribute performance, featuring “All My Lovin’”, “I Feel Fine”, “Can’t Buy Me Love” and “Help”.
- Recap of last night’s show.
- Carly Smithson, Michael Johns, Jason Castro and Syesha Mercado are asked to stand.
- Carly, Michael and Jason are safe, but Syesha is in the bottom three. She’s asked to sing right away… I doubt they’d do that if she was going to be eliminated, but there’s still time yet for me to proven wrong.
- Ford music video featuring Cake’s “The Distance” and the Idols in an election theme.
- Video package about how Idol has impacted the lives of the finalists.
- Chikezie, Amanda Overmyer, Kristy Lee Cook and David Cook are asked to stand.
- Chikezie is asked to come down, but just for Ryan to pick on him a little; he’s safe.
- Amanda and David C. are safe. Kristy, as she predicts on stage, gets the microphone to sing from her spot the bottom three.
- In my mind, though I didn’t have a problem with last night’s performance, she actually sang it better tonight. Simon’s still not impressed, as he didn’t think the song fit the style.
- Idol first - Taking live calls from viewers.
- Paige, 12, from Plains, PA asks Jason Castro, “If you could be one judge for a day, who would you be?” He non-answers, aiming for several.
- Ronny Paulie, 22, from Lincolnton, NC asks the judges “I have auditioned for the show 7 times in 6 cities. What does it take? Superfan!” Simon: “Get another job?” Paula: “Keep singing right straight to Simon.”
- John Aaron, 22, from Los Angeles asks Simon and Ryan, “When are you two going to just throw it down?” Ryan: “I say just load in the mud, I’m ready.”
- Ryan teases Amber, 26, from Las Vegas, who wanted to tell Simon he’s sexy, but instead goes for Tracy Wilkerson’s call.
- Tracy, 40, from Goldsboro NC asks Simon, “Do Americans or Brits have more [singing] talent?” Simon: “I will concede that American singers have more talent, but on the judging panel, it’s the Brits.”
- David Foster accompanies Katherine McPhee to George Harrison’s “Something”.
- Jim Carrey is booted out of his seat amongst the top 12.
- David Archuleta, Brooke White, David Hernandez and Ramiele Malubay are called to center stage.
- David A. gets a chance to redeem himself from the horrible showing last night; he’s safe tonight.
- Brooke and Ramiele are safe, while David H. joins Kristy and Syesha in the bottom three. David is asked to sing as well, so who knows who the hell’s out.
- The English language demonstrates its mastery over Paula.
- Syesha is sent back to her seat. The bottom two are David H. and Kristy. Going home is…
- David Hernandez.
- Ruben Studdard has recorded this year’s exit video song, Kenny Loggins’ “Celebrate Me Home.” The video plays behind the closing credits.
See ya next week for more Lennon/McCartney!
