American Idol 4/22 (Liveblogged!)

Liveblogging Andrew Lloyd Webber week on Idol!

  • David Duchovny in the house…
  • The band, somewhat more resembling, fittingly, an orchestra, is on stage tonight. I’m guessing there isn’t much room for the full orchestra in the upper decks.
  • Lord Andrew is sitting front-row in the audience.
  • Down to 6 contestants, they’re using two phone lines each now. Fortunately I’m still texting votes. :-P
    1. Syesha Mercado - “One Rock and Roll Too Many” (Starlight Express) - In the intro vignette, she hinted she was looking forward to this week, and it shows. Awesome performance, probably her best this season. Flirting a little with the band… stellar show.
  • WALL-E!!! I sooooo want to see that one. :-D
    1. Jason Castro - “Memories” (Cats) - Definitely not a Jason Castro style of song. Not knowing where most of these songs came from in terms of characters and such did him zero favors. Jason’s been kinda hanging on in the back of the pack for a while… this might be his curtain call.
    2. Brooke White - “You Must Love Me” (Evita) - Missed a lyric early on and restarted; I hope she hasn’t used up her only mulligan a few weeks ago. Once she caught up and fixed the lyric, it was a decent performance. You can definitely pick up the emotion and character behind it.
    3. David Archuleta - “Think Of Me” (Phantom of the Opera) - I really liked this performance. He’s taken this song, originally written for an opera diva, and turned it into a nice pop ballad. It’s cliché on Idol, but he truly did make the song his own. This is why he’s one of my top two favorites this season.
    4. Carly Smithson - “Jesus Christ Superstar” (Jesus Christ Superstar) - Given what we get in this performance, I’m quite happy she didn’t sing “All I Ask of You.” :) This is much more her style of song, and she knocks it out of the park.
  • Carly’s t-shirt is hilarious - “SIMON LOVES ME (this week)” :-D
    1. David Cook - “Music of the Night” (Phantom of the Opera) - Boy definitely has the pipes. I don’t see him looking like he’s feeling the performance like most of the others did. Really great vocal performance, though I think I’d like it even more if I weren’t watching it.
  • Ryan tried to sing. This didn’t work as well. :-P

I’m voting for: Syesha (1), Brooke (3), David A (4), Carly (5) and David C (6).

Predictions:
Bottom three:
Jason, Brooke and Carly
Going home: Jason
