American Idol 4/23 (Liveblogged!)
Apr 23, 2008 That's Hot
Results of Andrew Lloyd Weber week…
- Over 38 million votes this week.
- Paula and Simon get cheek smooches from Ryan. No love for Randy?
- Idols perform: “All I Ask of You” (Phantom of the Opera) with Lord Andrew at the piano.
- Tuesday night recapped.
- Ryan interviews Lord Andrew about last night’s performances. Asked if he were to write a love song for Paula and Simon, what would it be called? “Time to Say Goodbye?” “How Can I Say I Miss You If You Won’t Go Away?”
- Ford music video: “Tainted Love”
- Only announcing the bottom two tonight. Remove Carly from my predictions from last night; she was clearly the best of the three I mentioned.
- The Davids, Cook and Archuleta, are brought out on stage. They have lots of time to work with, so they’re dragging this out with some interviewage.
- Both men are declared safe, unsurprisingly. These are my top two to the finish.
- Neil Diamond will be mentoring next week’s contestants.
- Commercial for upcoming Will Smith movie Hancock – something of an anti-super-hero movie. Cool super powers combined with a bad attitude. I must see this.
Comes out July 2. - Idol alumni – catching up with Broadway-bound former contestants Tamyra Gray (Rent) and Clay Aiken (Monty Python’s Spamalot).
- Simon Cowell discovery Leona Lewis sings “Bleeding Love.”
- Syesha Mercado and Brooke White come to center stage.
- Brooke is declared safe. They’re all hugging, but Ryan hasn’t specifically called her bottom-two…
- …okay, there it is. Syesha is in the bottom two tonight. After last night’s stellar performance, her best of the season so far, I can’t see her going home.
- The last two, Carly Smithson and Jason Castro, are brought center stage. It’s gotta be Jason going home tonight.
- WHA….?!?!?!?!? Jason is safe? This is not possible. WTF?
- Carly and Syesha each sing their songs from last night. I’m still stunned beyond words.
- Carly Smithson is sent packing before her time. If someone figures out what the hell happened here, let me know.
Neil Diamond week is next week, see ya then…
