American Idol 5/6
Two weeks behind on blogging these, so today is catch-up day. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerewego!
- Three of the last four have been number one in votes in previous weeks? I’m guessing that Jason was left out…
- Rock and Roll Hall of Fame week.
- “The judges will critique them after -each- performance. Are we clear?” *snort*
- David Cook - “Hungry Like The Wolf” - This sounds exactly what it’s supposed to sound like: a modern rock cover of an 1980s rock song. Maybe not his best, but a great performance nonetheless.
- Syesha Mercado - “Proud Mary” - Nice slow, sultry start, picking up into a high-intensity finish. Like David before her, it’s not a huge difference from the original, but still pretty awesome.
- “I think your hips got very comfortable this week…”
- Funny Get Smart commercial with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
- “Anyone ever tell you you look just like one of our former contestants?” Hi Carly!
- Jason Castro - “I Shot The Sherrif” - Not bad at all. He had a guitar out there, but I didn’t see him play it. Not really special, just okay.
- David Archuleta - “Stand By Me” - Sounded like some weird lyrics in the end that weren’t from the original song. Apparently, this was at the demand of his father Jeff, which has since got him banned from backstage.
- Round one is complete. On to round two…
- David Cook - “Baba O’Reilly” - This song’s first performance on this show. Much better even in the first lines, as you can tell this is a much different arrangement than the original. Hard to pack this big a song into 90 seconds, but it’s an awesome job nonetheless.
- Rascal Flatts in the house…
- Syesha Mercado - “A Change Is Gonna Come” - Sounds pretty good in my book. I don’t know this song very well, but I liked the performance.
- Aww, Randy made her cry.
- Jason Castro - “Mr. Tambourine Man” - Major forgot-the-lyrics moment in the early going. Jason doesn’t add much to this song, which sounds very karaoke-like, even more so than the first one. Simon’s right — I’d pack my suitcase.
- David Archuleta - “Love Me Tender” - Predictably, the audience is swooning from the first line. Simple, but effective, an awesome performance.
I’d have voted for: David C. twice (1, 1), Syesha (2), and David A. twice (4, 4)
Not fair to do predictions these next two performances, as I know the results already…

Actually, I think Jason may have gotten the most votes way back when he sang “Hallelujah” in the Top 24 rounds. I don’t think Syesha ever was #1 for the week unless they weren’t being truthful with the bottom 2 or 3 the previous weeks.
