Video Game Nostolgia

One of my brother’s favorite Super Nintendo games was (hell, probably still is) Secret of Mana. It was rereleased a couple weeks ago for the Wii Virtual Console, so I downloaded it, and have been playing recently.
It’s a very long game, so I haven’t made it very far into it yet.
I have a strategy guide to work with. Nothing fancy, just a printout from a web site. A 35-page printout, from game beginning to game end. Not a lot of plot details, just quick here’s-what-works-against-this-dude and go-this-way-to-unlock-the-puzzles notes, the latter of which I’m trying to avoid using too much. But still, 35 pages.
Told ya it was a long game.
I think the Virtual Console is one of the neatest parts of the Wii — the ability to go back and replay classic Nintendo, Super Nintendo and other console games without needing to have all the hardware from the old systems. At the moment I’ve got in my Virtual Console library:
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros. 2
- Super Mario Bros. 3
- Super Mario World
- The Legend of Zelda
- Zelda II: The Adventure of Link
- The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
- Metroid
- Super Metroid
- SimCity
- Donkey Kong Country
- ExciteBike
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Mega Man
- the aforementioned Secret of Mana
An honorable mention goes to Dr. Mario Online Rx, which has the gameplay of the original Dr. Mario, with sounds and graphics updated for Wii and a few new game modes.
What was your favorite video game of the NES/SNES era (the time frame, not necessarily just on those consoles)?
