American Idol 8 – Top 36 group one results
Feb 19, 2009 That's Hot
The first results show of the season seeks out three survivors out of this first group of twelve.
- 24 million votes cast last night, almost 10 million more than last year at this time.
- Video recap to “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough” – this twelve’s journey to last night’s performances.
- The first twelve perform “I’m Yours”. Several of the girls are holding the microphones, but not anywhere near close to their mouths.
- Video recap of last night’s performances. I predicted the three moving on would be Anoop, Tatiana and Danny, though I do hope Alexis makes it in, if not tonight, during the wild card round in a few weeks.
- Three seats to be filled… “Dim the lights, here we go.”
- Casey is up first. Smart girl, recognizes she wasn’t good last night. Casey fails to qualify for the top twelve. Steven also misses out.
- Alexis is called to center stage, and the crowd lets out a much louder cheer than for the first two.
- Alexis Grace wins the first finalist spot in American Idol 8! One seat filled, two to go.
- Ricky and Jackie are called up together. Simon called Jackie the “clown” last night, but Jackie says she disagrees “100 percent.” Simon: “We’ll see.”
- Ricky fails to qualify, as does Jackie.
- Anoop and Michael are called forward. One of these two makes it…Â and it’s Michael Sarver!
- Video: opening of American Idol attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando.
- “Can I have the next two contestants join us front and center?” Uh, they’re not contestants from this season! Carly Smithson and Michael Johns from season 7 come out to say hi and perform an interesting arrangement of “The Letter.”
- Ann Marie stands… Brent stands… Stevie stands… and all three fail to qualify.
- One spot, two performers left… and they were both in my predictions… So, I guess I’m guaranteed to get one right.
- Tatiana and Danny are called to center stage. Ryan puts Paula on the spot, and she says that Danny is probably more deserving of the spot.
- The final spot goes to… Danny Gokey!
- Tatiana looks stunned during Danny’s performance, and starts to cry, which is certainly to be expected under the circumstances… but she doesn’t seem to want to clap for him with the rest of the group. Not very classy.
As far as the wild cards go, I’d like to see Anoop get another chance, but that doesn’t come for another few weeks. Tune in next Tuesday for the next twelve performances!
