American Idol 8 – Wild Card night (liveblogged!)

The last three spots in the top twelve will be filled tonight.

  • “Simon, be quiet.” *snort* :-P
  • All 8 selectees from last night will compete tonight, live, but only the judges will determine who’s going on to the final twelve.
    1. Jesse Langseth – “Tell Me Something Good” – She’s got a better vocal range this time, but it’s waaaaay pitchy from the beginning almost all the way through… Not the best performance.
    2. Matt Giraud – “Who’s Lovin’ You” – Nice and bluesy. Reeeeeally nice showing; Matt’s back in his zone. A much better performance than the Coldplay number from last week.
    3. Megan Joy Corkrey – “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” – Outside of the distinctive voice, I’m not hearing much Megan in this performance until the very end. Kinda karaoke-ish; I don’t think it’ll be enough to get her through.
  • The judges seem to see more in that performance than I did; I hope it works for her, ’cause I like her overall.
    1. Von Smith – “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” – A strong ending, but the rest of the song leading up to it seemed almost emotionally forced. I didn’t get this one at all, which is too bad, ’cause I like this song.
    2. Jasmine Murray – “Reflection” – I don’t know this song, but it sounds pretty nice coming from Jasmine. There were a few notes that sounded sour to me, but they might be correct for the original song, I don’t know. I think Jasmine would be a good candidate to move on.
  • GET ‘IM, PAULA! GET’IM!
    1. Ricky Braddy – “Superstition” – Ricky’s barely started, and Paula’s dancing already. He deserves it, though, ’cause this is a really good performance. A couple of weird runs toward the end, but he does great and sounds great with this song.
    2. Tatiana Del Toro – “Saving All My Love For You” – Pitchy at the beginning, and more than once through the rest of the song. She sounded nervous, like she’s trying too hard to get picked, and is overdoing it. Simon burns her for singing the same song again, when it wasn’t good enough the first time, and I think rightly so.
    3. Anoop Desai – “My Prerogative” – I think he starts out below his range, but he starts to sound better as the song goes on. Pretty good… not sure if it was top-three material, but it was good.
  • Before they make any announcements, I predict the top three will be Megan, Jasmine, and Anoop.
  • Jasmine is called forward… and Randy puts her in! Jasmine Murray takes spot number ten!
  • Ricky comes forward, but Kara eliminates him from competition.
  • Megan and Tatiana come forward. One of them is going forward… please be Megan…
  • Paula eliminates Tatiana, bringing Megan Joy Corkrey to the final twelve, as Tatiana sobs into the American Idol logo sign. Drama queen, anyone?
  • Two predictions nailed, one to go. I’m still thinking it’ll be Anoop.
  • After a break, Jesse is eliminated by Simon. She was close, he says, but not enough. Paula eliminates Von from the show.
  • Matt and Anoop remain, with one stool left… and it goes to Matt Giraud! Anoop s
  • Simon calls Anoop back to center stage and says, “I wanted to say something to you, and this is on behalf of all of us… we’ve decided… recently… we’re going to make this a top thirteen!Anoop Desai rounds out the cast for the first ever American Idol final thirteen!
  • Next week: Kanye West and Kelly Clarkson.

Woohoo! See ya next week!
