American Idol 8 – Top 11 results

Sorry for the delay… here’s the blogging of last week’s results show.

  • The results “may shock you…”  This can’t be good.
  • Over 31 million votes…
  • Video recap: last Tuesday night’s performances. I had predicted Danny, Michael and Alexis in the bottom three, with Danny leaving, but I obviously wasn’t paying as much attention at the end of the show — Danny did really well. We’ll see what happens instead…
  • The top 11 perform “Trouble.”
  • Ford Music Video, featuring Ok Go’s “Here It Goes Again,” which is a fun little song, now that I’ve actually seen the lyrics to it, having had my first taste of Rock Band this past weekend. :)
  • Video: what happens after an Idol gets eliminated?
  • Some interview questions… Alexis reflects on what it feels like to say goodbye to eliminated contestants, while Michael talks about how hard it is being away from family. His three-and-a-half daughter, not realizing what all this is about, recently asked him, “Why don’t you want to be with me anymore?” Awww. :’(
  • After being nasty sick this week, Meg is feeling better.
  • Results time. Danny stands… and sits. He’s safe. Lil rises… and sits back down, safe as well. Anoop is called up, on the heels of Tuesday’s awesome performance, and is also safe.
  • Allison and Michael are called up together. Paula seems “surprised” that anyone would be in the bottom three, defying simple math. Allison… is in the bottom three.
  • …and so is Michael.
  • Live performance: Brad Paisley sings his new single, “Then.”
  • Scott is asked to stand… and Ryan tells him to pack his bags… for the Top 10 Idols tour. He’s safe. Megan, after a bout of influenza-b… is also safe, as are Matt and Kris.
  • Alexis and Adam both stand. Alexis doesn’t look  comfortable, standing next to a known crowd favorite, despite Simon’s complaints about his version of “Ring of Fire.”
  • Alexis is shuffled to the bottom three.
  • Returned to the mix from the bottom three is… Allison. Alexis or Michael his headed home, unless saved by the judges.
  • Video recap: Carrie Underwood’s journey from Idol to her induction into the Grand Old Opry.
  • Live performance: Carrie Underwood and Randy Travis. Carrie has… uh… weird things on her head and on her dress. “I Told You So” is their new duet.
  • Simon, in a tease, hints that one of the bottom two might be worth saving…
  • “After the nationwide vote…” Michael is safe.
  • Alexis, says Simon, was the one who might get saved. She sings “Jolene” one last time, for her Idol life… and it isn’t that great. Verrrry pitchy; she’s got to be nervous about this.
  • “It was good…  but it wasn’t good enough.” Alexis Grace is the third finalist eliminated this season.

Programming note: due to an address to the nation President Obama, Idol this week is on Wednesday and Thursday. Tune in in a couple days!
