American Idol 8 – Top 10 results

Let’s see if Paula makes the mistake of giving Simon crayons again. :-P The results of Motown week, heeeeeeere we go!

  • 37 million votes – most ever in a top-10 episode.
  • Simon clears up a misunderstood recent Tonight Show joke: He’s never been invited to dinner by President Obama. :-P
  • Video: last night’s performances. I predicted a bottom three of Scott, Megan and Michael, with Michael going home. I think he did better than Megan did, but he was in the bottom two last week…
  • Live performance: the top ten Idols sing a Motown medley featuring “You Keep Me Hangin’ On,” “You’re All I Need To Get By” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”
  • Ford Music Video: “Pocketful of Sunshine”
  • Live performance: “Together” by Ruben Studdard
  • Results time. Adam stands first, almost as a formality. He’s quickly returned to his seat. Matt is called up next, and should have also breezed through, but is relegated to the bottom three. Kris, after a tease from Ryan, is safe.
  • Lil and Michael stand. Ryan leads Lil on a bit, but Michael’s pretty confident he’s in the bottom, and he’s right. Lil is safe.
  • Live performance: Smokey Robinson and Joss Stone sing “You’re the One For Me.” I’ve heard some Joss Stone before, but I think this is the first I’ve seen her perform. Verrrrrrry impressive young lady, and the usual awesomeness from Smokey Robinson.
  • Allison and Anoop are called safe, as is Danny, leaving Scott and Megan. The last member of the bottom three is…  Scott. Megan is safe.
  • Returned to the couches is… Scott, safe for another week.
  • Live performance: Stevie Wonder with a medley of his hits: “My Cherie Amour,” “Superstition,” “Overjoyed” and “All About the Love Again.”
  • The lowest number of votes went to… Michael. Matt is safe.
  • Michael knows he’s in a bind, in more ways than one: “I have to sing after Stevie… holy crap!”
  • The girls looked like they were just going to dance, and let Randy and Simon decide whether to keep Michael around…
  • Michael sang better, I think, than the previous night. I’m not sure it was enough to earn the only save of the season, though…

…and the DVR cut out. A quick check of the Mahalo liveblog reports that it was indeed not enough. Michael Sarver is eliminated from the competition in tenth place.

I’ll be out of town next week, but I should still be able to, hopefully, catch Idol live for blogging. We’ll see how that goes.
