American Idol 8 – Top 9: Top iTunes downloads (Liveblogged!)

Liveblogging from Toronto… THIS… is American Idol!

  • Tonight’s theme: Any song from the popular downloads on iTunes
    1. Anoop Desai – “Caught Up” – Nice work to start off… I don’t know the song, but it sounds pretty good to me. After the first few weeks, Anoop has kinda picked up the pace. I’m not hearing the same issues that the judges heard — I liked it.
  • Did some hunting to figure out why Megan Joy dropped the last name Corkery: it’s her ex’s last name.
    1. Megan Joy – “Turn Your Lights Down Low” – I don’t know this song either. I can hear where the judges are coming from, though, in that there wasn’t much here we haven’t heard in previous weeks. Megan may be in trouble this week.
  • Simon spotted it too — she’s been defiantly saying “yeah, but my fans liked it” every week now. For her sake, we’ll see how long it works out…
    1. Danny Gokey – “What Hurts The Most” – Awesome job. I’d buy that track. ‘Nuff said.
    2. Allison Iraheta – “Don’t Speak” – I’m not sure what’s up with that dress… Interesting grungy version of the song. I think it sounds a little wavering, but it may just be me. I liked the beginning, and from about the midway point to the end, though there was a weird part right after the band picked up for me. *shrug*
  • Simon found what I was hearing — it sounded shouted a little.
    1. Scott MacIntyre – “Just The Way You Are” – Yvonne’s watching with me, and immediately heard him go flat on an early long note. All the same, that note aside, it’s a strong and solid performance — faithful to the Billy Joel original, yet still adding some Scott flair.
    2. Matt Giraud – “You Found Me” – I don’t know this song, but the original band has impressed me with what I’ve heard of them so far. Matt sounds like he’s not maintaining a steady pitch on some of the longer notes. I’m not sure where I am on this song… The judges aren’t fans of it, but then, they liked last week’s performance and he was in the bottom three. Matt’s a great singer, but I neither liked nor disliked this performance… it’s just kinda okay.
    3. Lil Rounds – “I Surrender” – Celine Dion is a big artist, and this could have been a trainwreck, but Lil has the power to perform it. Not bad.
    4. Adam Lambert – “Play That Funky Music” – Adam’s got the Elvis-ish hair going again. Rockin’ take on a funky song. It’s original and it’s awesome. Nice shout-out to the band, too.
    5. Kris Allen – “Ain’t No Sunshine” – Nice. Excellent take on the classic. This could be released as a single right now. Absolutely awesome.

I voted for: Anoop (1), Danny (3), Allison (4), Scott (5), Lil (6), Adam (8) and Kris (9)
Predictions
Bottom three: Megan, Allison and Matt
Going home: Megan

See you tomorrow night!

  • even tho this could be considered a total spoiler for me, since i live in california.... it really isn't a spoiler. it just makes me anticipate the show even more.
  • Personally, I don't care about what they are wearing. I won't likely see them in concert, anyway, so it doesn't matter to me what they are wearing. I'll be listening to them, not watching, so outfit isn't important.
  • Pam
I do know the song that Megan BUTCHERED shall I say.... awful and I think she should go now!
  • Adam Lambert
