American Idol 8 – Top 7: Music From the Movies (Delayblogged)

Here we go, about 15 minutes delayed as I start, tonight’s delay-blogged performances!

  • “…This… is…” Quentin Tarantino???
  • Ricky Minor and the band are down on stage tonight, for a nice change of pace.
  • If I’m hearing this right, only two judges will comment on each performance, due to last week’s overrun.
    1. Allison Iraheta – “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” (Armageddon) – I like Allison overall, but I almost think she was holding back too much while singing this one. It was good, but it could have been even better if she let it out even just a little more. Good, but I think it could be better.
    2. Anoop Desai – “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) – I’m hearing the same thing in this performance that Paula mentioned in last week’s — he’s controlling the song, and not letting it control him. Great work on this one.
    3. Adam Lambert – “Born To Be Wild” (Easy Rider) – I watch Adam each week worried that he’s going to go completely nuts on a song and take it too far away from the original song. Fears are unfounded this week. Rockin’. Awesome. Great modern version of the classic.
    4. Matt Giraud – “Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman” (Don Juan DeMarco) – Maybe not as rockin’ as Adam (you can’t be with this song, let’s be honest), but still a nicely done version of the Bryan Adams hit.
    5. Danny Gokey – “Endless Love” (Endless Love) – Good work on this song… nothing stand-out special, but it’s good.
    6. Kris Allen – “Falling Slowly” (Once) – Thanks to Twitter for helping me figure out what the hell song this was. :-P Despite my not knowing the song, it’s a really moving performance, and you can tell he’s in to it. Excellent job.
    7. Lil Rounds – “The Rose” (The Rose) – Nice shift-up in the middle to a gospel mode. Another great showing.

I voted for: Anoop (2), Adam (3), Matt (4), Kris (6) and Lil (7)
Predictions
Bottom three: Allison, Danny and Lil
Going home: Lil

This one’s a tough one to call, ’cause they all did really well. Tune in tomorrow for the results!
