American Idol 8 – Top 6+1 results

Who survives the shiny disco axe this week?

  • David Archuleta will perform later in the show.
  • 45 million votes last night, the most so far this season.
  • Video: Paula Abdul assists the Idols in choreographing the group performance for the week.
  • “I just downloaded my own song as a ringtone on my phone…” Oh, the wonders of modern technology. :-P
  • Group performance: the Idols sing Michael Jackson’s “Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground).”
  • Paula gets a bouquet and tosses out a “royal wave.”
  • Ford Music Video: “I’m Good, I’m Gone.”
  • Of everyone, who took the longest to change clothes after the group performance? Matt G. :-P
  • “Dim the lights…”   After being walked to the far left end of the stage… without much fanfare, Lil Rounds is immediately eliminated. One down, one to go.
  • Paula mouths the question everyone else was asking, as Lil performs last night’s song one last time: “Why didn’t you sing like that last night?”
  • Live performance: an “all-star disco medley,” featuring Freda Payne with “Band of Gold,” Thelma Houston singing “Don’t Leave Me This Way,” and KC and the Sunshine Band’s KC with “Get Down Tonight.”
  • Only a bottom three are being announced… I’d initially said Lil, Matt, Danny and Anoop for a bottom four, so I’ll save Danny. I think Lil, Matt and Anoop are our bottom three.
  • Kris is next up, and is safe. Adam stands next, and I think (I can barely hear over the squeeing fangirls in the crowd) is also safe.
  • Danny is next up. I can barely recognize him without his glasses. After some banter back and forth between Simon and Ryan, Danny is safe. Anoop is, however, for what I think is the fourth time in a row, in the bottom three.
  • Allison and Matt stand up; one of these two is in the bottom three. Ryan teases and teases… and finally declares Matt safe. Allison joins Anoop and the already-departed Lil in the bottom three.
  • Live performance: David Archuleta sings “Touch My Hand.”
  • Down to the last two… and the second person going home is… Anoop Desai. Allison is safe and returns to the benches.
  • Video: Lil and Anoop’s roads to this point on Idol.

No word on next week’s theme. Tune in Tuesday to watch the top five perform!
