American Idol 8 – Top 4: Rock ‘n’ Roll (Liveblogged!)

And then there were four. How will they do this week?

  • Some damage to the stage from accidents today, and as such there’s been no dress rehearsal… but “the show must go on!”
  • Instead of In addition to four straight-up performances, there’ll be six two duets, if I’m understanding this right.
  • Video: Slash of Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver mentors the Idols this week.
    1. Adam Lambert – “Whole Lotta Love” – With this style of music, Adam’s voice sounds a ton like Robert Plant. Naturally, then, this song is perfect for him. Adam sets the bar high at the top of the show.
  • Ha… Allison had her hair done by Adam’s hair girl. :-P
    1. Allison Iraheta – “Crybaby” – I don’t know the song offhand, but she’s already a regular to this style. By itself, it’s a good tune, but this wasn’t all that special and “awesome” for her. It’s good, but she could have done better.
  • Hey, there you go, get after Simon a little — give’im hell, Allison!
  • Duet #1: Kris & Danny – “Renegade” – Danny doesn’t seem like he’s invested in the song at the top; he looks distracted. Heard a sour note from Kris, but he sounds like he’s more into the performance. Great harmonies from both; overall great job.
    1. Kris Allen – “Come Together” – Kris does a great job of twisting it up just a little, but enough to make it distinctively Kris. Not as over-the-top as Adam was, but he doesn’t need to be — this is his style. Great performance!
    2. Danny Gokey – “Dream On” – This is a monster of a song, and Danny does an okay job of it… but it sounds like he tried for a home run and came up just feet short. The scream at the end made him sound less like Steven Tyler and more like a murder victim. :-/
  • Duet #2: Adam & Allison – “Slow Ride” – Not much to say. Great performance bu two natural rockers. All told, though, I liked the harmonies better from the first duet. Still sweet, though.

I voted for: Adam twice (1, 1), Allison (2) and Kris (3)
Predictions
Bottom three: Allison, Kris and Danny
Going home: Toss-up between Danny and Kris… probably should be Kris, but I predict it’ll narrowly be Danny.

Daughtry, Paula Abdul and the voting results, tomorrow night.
