American Idol 8 – Top 4 results

Who survives rock week?

  • Vote count: 64 million, highest ever for a non-finale episode.
  • Performances tonight by No Doubt, Daughtry and Paula Abdul.
  • Ford Music Video: The All-American Rejects’ “Move Along.”
  • Live Performance: the top four sing “School’s Out,” accompanied by Slash.
  • Simon’s got a point talking to Kris: there’s no more time to be humble on this show. You definitely need to know you’re a winner at this stage, and have that confidence that you are supposed to be here.
  • Danny gets the last laugh on himself, recalling his death scream at the end of “Dream On” from last night.
  • Did Allison get bleeped? The audio cut out for a moment there…
  • Video of Paula Abdul’s road to superstardom, followed by a live performance of “I’m Just Here For the Music.”
  • Paula’s performance is produced enough that I can’t tell whether she lip-synced or not. Not that I care all that much; it’s still a catchy tune.
  • Live performance: “Just A Girl” by No Doubt. Gwen Stefani sounds almost out of breath during the song… too much chasin’ the little ones around the house? :)
  • No Doubt is doing the process a little “backwards” — instead of touring to promote an album, they’re touring to build the inspiration to write one. :-P
  • The top four are waiting backstage.
  • Video package: previous seasons’ top-three finalists returning to their home towns.
  • Three seats on stage for the finalists, who will be announced in random order. The top four are called out to center stage.
  • After reviewing the performances, the first safe top-three finalist is… Kris.
  • Video: Chris Daughtry’s road from Idol to superstardom.
  • Live performance: Chris and his epynomous band, Daughtry, debuts their new album’s first single, “No Surprise.”
  • Kris, on behalf of Idol and 19 Entertainment, presents the band a plaque commemerating the sale of 5 million copies of Daughtry’s debut album.
  • The second top-three finalist is… Adam. Allison and Danny are our final two.
  • Danny… is also safe. Allison Iraheta leaves Idol tonight.
  • Funny comment by Slash during Allison’s departure video, regarding her song rehearsal from earlier in the week: “And you’re only 17? That beats most 30-year-olds I know!”

The top three… next week.
