American Idol 8 – Finals

Last chance to earn votes before the finale. Who wants it more?

  • Dood, super-fancy set. :)
  • Must be an important night or something… Randy and Simon are sportin’ the sport coats. :-P
  • Kris will go second by virtue of winning a coin toss last week.
  • Three songs each: Their favorite performance of this season, a song picked by show creator Simon Fuller, and this year’s winning single, co-written by Kara Dioguardi.
  • Ryan starts out with a warning for tomorrow night’s finale – much like last year, expect it to go long, and set your DVR accordingly! Time Warner in Rochester shows it running to 10:07 PM EDT, and I tacked on an extra 10 minutes just in case!
    1. Adam Lambert – “Mad World” (previous performance) – I didn’t get to see this performance when it first aired. While it was released the year of his birth by Tears for Fears, this is definitely based on the Michael Andrews/Gary Jules version from Donnie Darko, while still distinctive enough to make it really his own performance. Strong start to this week’s show.
    2. Kris Allen – “Ain’t No Sunshine” (previous performance) – Nice soulful sound, and one of Kris’s best performances. Kris is making a battle of this, and if he goes down, it won’t be for lack of trying. Tie ball game so far.
    1. Adam Lambert – “A Change is Gonna Come” (Simon Fuller’s choice) – Damn, these guys are swinging for the fences. Adam changes gears a little, and does an awesome version of the Sam Cooke R&B classic.
    2. Kris Allen – “What’s Goin’ On?” (Simon Fuller’s choice) – Kris pulls even again, with another great performance of an R&B song, though with a more laid-back feel. Nice job (even if I’m not sold on the social message of the song).
    1. Adam Lambert – “No Boundaries” (winner’s single) – I’m not hearing Adam so much in the song, almost as if he is restraining himself, though that could be the song. It’s definitely not something that’s in his style, but who knows. I’m not sold.
    2. Kris Allen – “No Boundaries” (winner’s single) – Kara’s song is much more Kris’s style, and he’s singing his heart out. I’m definitely preferring his version to Adam’s, even if it is in a higher key than he should be singing.
  • Closing live performance: Carrie Underwood sings her Idol sign-off song from this season, “Home Sweet Home”

I voted for: Kris (2)
Prediction
Winner: Adam, but it’s going to be incredibly close. Sometimes I have reservations over some of the final-two choices, but I have no problem with either of these guys winning.

A bunch of live performances, videos, and the winner of some competition thingie, tomorrow night!
