American Idol 9 – Top 12 women
Feb 28, 2010 That's Hot
Hollywood week is over, and now we’re live (on DVR)! The top twelve women will perform first.
- Each group will take the stage separately each week, shedding two each until we get to twelve total.
- Big applause for first live appearance of Ellen Degeneres.
- Ellen’s sitting over at the far end of the table from Simon tonight, because he apparently has “wandering hands…” and she has the video to prove it.
- Billboard hits will be the overall theme for the next three weeks.
- Paige Miles – “All Right Now” – Paige sounds like she’s holding back at first. She comes out of her shell a little as the performance goes on, but I think she could still put more into it.
- Paige may now pee; she’s been “sewn into” her dress for the last 5 hours.
- Ashley Rodriguez – “Happy” – I don’t know Leona Lewis’s song, but there were a few notes here and there that sounded like they didn’t mesh with the band; not sure whether they were actually sour or not.
- Janell Wheeler – “What About Love?” – Janell is nervous, too. Everyone seems to be timid and holding back. You could tell at the end that she had a death grip on the microphone the way her hand was shaking at the end of the performance.
- Lilly Scott – “Fixing a Hole” – Lilly’s performance is the perfect example of what the judges were talking about in the previous three — Lilly shone more than the song, unlike the earlier three.
- Katelyn Epperly – “Oh! Darling” – Probably the first really strong performance of the night. There were parts that were a little off on notes, but overall this is a really good job. I agree a bit with Kara that the lipstick may have been a little much; she looks like she’s coming out of the ’80s.
- Haeley Vaughn – “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” – I’m liking this with the first line, because it’s very different. A few weird notes here and there, but changing up the arrangement that much takes a lot of guts. Very impressive.
- Lacey Brown – “Landslide” – Song sounded a little all-over-the-place. I think Lacey might be in danger of going home.
- Michelle Delamor – “Falling” – Michelle’s previous singing experience shows here, as she looks more comfortable on stage than most have tonight.
- Didi Benami – “The Way I Am” – I think she missed the very last note, but she sounded pretty good overall.
- Siobhan Magnus – “Wicked Game” – Very deep voice to start; nice demonstration of range. It almost — almost — seems like she’s trying too hard to put on the Chris Isaak affect on her voice. It’s a good showing, but I think she can do more.
- Crystal Bowersox – “Hand In My Pocket” – I could have used a little more Crystal in the performance, as there was a lot of Alanis in this one. It’s a good song, though. Nice work on the harmonica, too.
- Katie Stevens – “Feeling Good” – Another song I don’t know, but I liked the showing. No idea how it compares to the Buble original. I can see where Ellen’s coming from in saying it sounds like an “old” song.
I would have voted for: Lilly (4), Katelyn (5), Haeley (6), Michelle (8), Didi (9), Siobhan (10), Crystal (11), Katie (12)
Predictions
Going home: Haeley, Lacey
