The first live eliminations to narrow the field to 20 take place.

  • Kara’s husband is in the house tonight to keep a watchful eye on the proceedings. :-P
  • Idols Group Sing: “American Boy”
  • Girls are first up for results; the back row stands.
  • Siobhan is first up, and is safe. Haeley also sticks around, defeating one of my predictions. Michelle and Katelyn are safe, leaving Katie and Janell.
  • “It’s the end of the road for… Janell.” Janell Wheeler is the first live elimination of season 9.
  • Idol Alumni: Alison Iraheta sings her new single, “Scars.”
  • Paige is next up from the bottom row, and sticks around. Lacey, my other predicted elimination, is next up. Continuing my perfect record of failure, she sticks around.
  • Lilly takes a seat next, staying another week. Crystal joins her, leaving Ashley and Didi.
  • Didi… is safe, eliminating Ashley Rodriguez.
  • Ashley sounds like she’s even more all over the place than last night, while Janell earlier seemed to improve with the stress relieved.
  • The guys swap into the seats the girls were just in. Ryan shows tape of Tyler’s rehearsal yesterday in boots, tennis socks and a spa robe. :-P
  • Back row to start. Michael should be an easy safe, and he is. John and the “intimidating” Aaron both stick around, as does Todrick.
  • Tim and Joe remain in the back row. Tim was my prediction to go home…
  • …but he stays. Joe Muñoz is the first guy to go home tonight.
  • April 21 will host the next Idol Gives Back event. The helping starts with this episode, featuring a report and a song, “Let It Be,” by reigning Idol Kris Allen. See Mobile Giving Foundation’s site for details on how you can donate money to help out in Haiti.
  • Casey is first up from the bottom row of guys, and gets the easy safe. Jermaine, my final prediction to go home, also sticks around, giving me a solid 4 for 4. :-P
  • Lee stays, as does Andrew. Tyler and Alex go to center stage. I’m guessing it’s Alex leaving from these two.
  • Aaaaaand to cement my prediction failures further, Alex stays. Tyler Grady goes home as the final eliminated contestant of the night.
